Submissions - FICTION

Submission Cycle for our Spring 2026 Issue will be from February 1st  – February 28th , 2026.

What We’re Looking For:

We love

  • Dreamscapes and nightmares
  • Soaring fantasies and futuristic miasmas
  • Experimental forms and classic arcs
  • Lush, brilliant prose that bends genre and structure
  • Unconventional storytelling (emails across multiverses, tales in verse, fractured POVs)

We Don’t Want

  • Needless animal cruelty
  • Violence/hate speech against minorities
  • Gratuitous violence and sex
  • Submissions from non-South Asian authors writing stories that have no connection to South Asia or neighbouring regions.

Genres

All forms of speculative fiction – fantasy, sci-fi, horror, magical realism, mythpunk, weird fiction, or anything genre-bending

Format to Follow

  • Use 12 Pt. Font, Double Spaced, and any font which is easily readable. Eg. Times New Roman, Arial, Cambria, etc.
  • Mention your word count at the top
  • Content warnings are appreciated and should appear at the top after word counts if they are applicable to your piece
  • Your full address isn’t necessary, but we would like to know where you are located
  • File types we accept: ODT/DOC/DOCX/PDF formats
  • Please name your files to match the following example or something similar: Sultana’s Dream by Begum Rokeya
  • Please follow thismanuscript format.

Payment

We pay 5 cents per word for stories up to 5,000 words.

Coverletter

Please feel free to keep your cover letter brief. Feel free to mention whether you fit into our Diversity statement in any way, or to tell us about past publications (if any), and mention any content warnings for your submission. Other than that, please do not explain your submission in your cover letter. Thank you!

Other Submission Guidelines

  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed as long as you let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
  • We do not accept unsolicited reprints, but we may reach out directly to reprint work (especially pieces not published online).
  • We try to offer light feedback when possible, especially on promising work.
  • We currently do not accept poetry, flash fiction, or AI-generated work of any kind.
  • Content promoting hate, bigotry, or gratuitous violence without narrative purpose will be rejected.

Response Time

When you submit a piece or pitch to us, you will receive an automated confirmation email via Moksha. If you do not receive a confirmation email within a day, please reach out on submit@tasavvurnama.com.

Other than that, we send out decisions three weeks after our submissions close. So, if our submissions are closing on June 30th, expect to hear back by July 18th or so (if not earlier). If you submitted a piece to us and didn’t hear back a decision, please reach out to us! 

Rights

We ask for:

  • Exclusive electronic rights for 6 months
  • Non-exclusive archival rights for 1 years

All other rights remain with the author.
